St. Augustine Offshore Fishing Report

12/4/08

Sorry we forgot our camera so no pics. Finally got offshore after a couple months of no fishing. We put in our high speed lures around 145' of water out of St Augustine. Within just a few minutes we had about a 50# Wahoo in the boat.

Lines back out. We worked the same area a little longer and caught another Wahoo. This one was about 30# and hit our cedar plug. Somehow it did not get to the mono and we got it in the boat.

We headed offshore and saw plenty of tuna busting the surface. We put 2 blackfin tuna in the boat. Both hit the blue/white cedar plug. One smallish fish and one about 18#. We trolled a bit more and didn't get any other action so we decided to bottom fish.

We pull about a 14# snapper off of the ledge along with a Yelloweye Snapper. Moved back in to 21 bottom and did pretty well. Using chunk bait and drifting we put a 23# gag and a 12# gag in the boat. Tim topped off the day by landing a nice mule snapper that was pushing 30#. It was a monster!

Great steady day and a lot of meat for an empty freezer!
